Helloween, Unarmed, ya benar, mereka tidak “bersenjata lengkap”. Tidak dengan gitar penuh distorsi, maupun twin pedal drum yang kencang dan lagu lagu yang “ngebut”.
Album Helloween yang menurut saya pribadi adalah cukup bikin “shock”. Ini adalah Re-imagining the power metal band.
Gimana enggak, kalau selama ini kita mendengarkan Helloween sebagai sebuah band Power Metal yang konsisten dengan tensi tinggi memainkan musiknya. Sekarang tiba tiba saja muncul dengan album yang berisi bunyi bunyian akustik, orkestrasi dan bahkan saxophone yang tiba tiba saja nongol.
Unarmed, sebuah album yang dirilis oleh Helloween untuk merayakan 25 tahun kebersamaan mereka sebagai sebuah band. Album ini pertama dilepas di Jepang pada 26 Desember 2009 dan lepas edar di Eropa pada bulan Februari 2010. Unarmed ini sendiri merupakan lagu lagu terbaik Helloween yang direkam ulang dengan konsep yang berbeda dari versi aslinya.
Terus terang saya sendiri sempat terharu ketika mendengarkan lagu Eagle Fly Free. Ini adalah lagu pertama yang saya dengar di album Unarmed. Lagu diaransemen ulang dengan gaya yang “akustik melankolis”. Bandingkan saja versi aslinya yang “ngebut” dengan versi Akustik dengan backing vokal Harriet Ohlsson yang sexy. dan Kehadiran Nippy Noya di seksi perkusi dan Johan Bringhed pada piano membuat lagu ini malah lebih terdengar lebih “dalam”.
Dr. Stein sebagai lagu pembuka sebenarnya malah bikin bengong dengan saxophone yang tiba tiba nyelonong muncul di intro. Lagu yang keren trade mark Helloween ini dire-arrange dengan suasana pop bahkan cenderung jazzy. Dominasi saxophone sangat terlihat sekali bahkan dibagian interlude.
Kehadiran Prague Symphonic Orchestra pada lagu Keepers Trilogy memang sepertinya pas sekali. Epic berdurasi 17 menit ini, berisi medley dari lagu “Halloween”, “Keeper of the Seven Keys”,dan “The King for 1000 Years”. Dilengkapi dengan backing vokal yang operatik, epic ini terdengar lebih “ngeri”. Ini mengingatkan pada album konser Within Temptation and Metropole Orchestra.
Lagu Forever In One ketika dibawakan dengan hanya menggunakan piano dan sedikit orkestrasi ternyata efeknya luar biasa.Melankolis !
Demonstrasi kemampuan vokal Andi Deris dibuktikan di lagu The Tale That Wasn’t Right. Dengan iringan orkestra, vokal Andi Deris terasa dominan dengan lengkingan tingginya yang khas sekali.
Helloween membuktikan bahwa dirinya merupakan band dengan musisi musisi cerdas didalamnya. Melepaskan batasan dari musik metal dengan musik lainnya. Future World, Where The Rain Grows, I Want Out, Perfect Gentleman, Fallen to Pieces adalah lagu lagu terbaik Helloween. Setelah mendengarkan album ini, rasanya ingin mendengar versi asli dari lagu tersebut. Jika kalian mengharapkan speed, distorsi, drum kick yang agresif. Semua itu tidak akan ada di album ini. Semuanya berubah total, dan menurut saya They are the Perfect Gentleman !

Kalau mendengar nama ini yang terbayang adalah rambut kriting, topi, Gibson Les Paul guitar, dan kadang rokok di sudut bibir.
Setelah sukses membawa Guns n Roses di ujung ketenaran dan membius jutaan penggemarnya lewat Slash’s Snake Pit dan Velvet Revolver. Slash muncul dengan album solonya.
Ketika Slash muncul bersama Michael Jackson lewat hit Black Or White, orang terkejut dengan kolaborasi rock dan pop. Di album solonya ini Slash bekerja sama dengan banyak sekali musisi. Dari Ian Astbury, Fergie, Ozzy Osbourne sampai Cypress Hill. Ciri khas sound gitar yang kental dengan aroma thrashy glam blues, mungkin akan membuat Guns n Roses fanboy melepaskan rasa rindunya dengan album ini.
Mengapa album ini diberi titel Slash ? . Karena album solo ini menggambarkan Slash yang sebenarnya. Slash banget lah . Bekerja sama dengan banyak pemusik menunjukkan kemampuan Slash menciptakan karya musik seperti apa yang diinginkannya. The real creator, and total controller. Element blues digabungkan dengan gaya bernyanyi yang berbeda dari beberapa vokalis membuat album ini terasa sangat kaya sekali.
Ghost sebagai track pertama memang layak disimak. Dan memang pilihan menjadikan lagu ini sebagai track pembuka memang terasa pas. Khas Slash ! You’ll hear the old Gun’s N Roses !
Myles Kennedy di lagu Back to Cali dan Starlight membawa nuansa Alter Bridge. Dan itu sangat terasa sekali. Memang sih vokalnya unik dan khas. Meskipun gitarisnya Slash tapi nyawa Alter Bridge tetap ada disini.
Crucify the Dead terdengar seram dan “sangat” Ozzy sekali. Meskipun dibalut nuansa bluesy yang kental suara Adam Levine tetap meningatkan kita akan Maroon 5. Begitu pula kemunculan Chris Cornell (Promise) dan M. Shadows (Nothing to Say)
Munculnya Fergie di lagu Paradise City membuat saya sedikit terkejut. Mending Fergie ini jadi rockers saja daripada menjadi vokalis grup R&B. Dan dua track di abum ini dengan Fergie didalamnya itu sudah cukup. Fergie Rocks !
Cypress Hill sendiri membuat lagu Paradise City terdengar lebih hardcore
Tampaknya Slash berusaha menjadikan dirinya seolah olah adalah gitaris dari masing masing band asal dari vokalis yang bersangkutan. Kemampuan beradaptasi dengan core musik masing masing artis di yang ada di album ini sungguh menarik.  Bleed your ears with this album !

DEFIANT was originally formed 2005 in Pozega, Croatia, by Beretz(guitars,vox) & Kris(guitars). With much musical experience from the past they began writing material with lots of melodies, harmonies and dark lyrics. The main idea from the beginning was to play melodic death metal with Swedish influences. When Bole(bass) and File(drums)joined the band, line-up was finished. Defiant have developed their own and more commercial form of Death metal with groovy rhythms, melodic riffs, well played guitar solos and an aggressive vocal in focus. After lot of concerts and festivals, played with high-energy performance, the band made their debut album”The End of Beginning”in the autumn 2006

1. Would you like to tell us about croatian death metal / underground music scene ?
There is a scene with too many bands,but only 5-6 bands are make the scene,because there is no interest in metal like in other european countries…
2. 2006 to 2010, why it takes a long time to build a new album ?
Well,we have a Promo in 2008,so it’s not a very long time to keep busy our fans to wait our second album in 2010.And there was some changes in the band,because we need very good drummer on this new album so we cancel many gigs this year
so we can go in Studio to record some new songs  in a way that should be….metal.
3. Working on a new recording, could you tell us just little bit about new material ?
There will be some real old school melodies with some new sound of death metal.
4.Defiant call their self, “Croatian metal with swedish style”, tell us your favourite musician.
Of course,But some old stuff like,At The Gates,In Flames,Dismember,Dark Tranquillity….
5. For selling point, and popularity or some other reason, some of musician or band covering the other band song. What do you think about that ?
Well,they cover for some own reason,if they think that ’s OK i don’t have to say anything:D
6. If you could tour with one band, past or present, who would it be and why?
I think that could be Metallica or Slayer,because they are the names for themselves today…
7. City to city or world tour. Which one from your live performance you experienced that means much to the band.
World tour is the best,but it’s great to travel city to city of course…:D
8. Any pre-show rituals?
Drink some beers…a lot of beers…and smoke some weed…
9. What’s your opinion abut the music charts now, with the amount of manufactured boy/girl bands that seem to dominate it?
i don’t track this shit …
10. From the beginning until now, what made Defiant still focus on this genre. How does the music make you feel when you’re producing, performing, or listening to it?
It was hard work but we still could produce a nice death metal sound with a nice melodies…we give a high hope to this feelings:D
11.Your message to the metal fans ?
Keep it metal,it’s all you’ve got at the end….
