ESIE, Japan electro industrial pop punk ambient artist. ESIE and Yoshimi, the great combination between model, fashion, and trendy electro industrial musics. From melancholic contemplative ballads to electronic punk. Mixes the beauty cute and electronica touch in fashion and music.  And this is the interview with ESIE.

1.Tell us a short history about ESIE.

I started my fashion model carrier from 15 years old and I won the Nonno magazine Model Grand prix in 2005. I was exclusive model for Nonno magazine until mid 2007. I stopped a while modeling and thinking to start something in music that I really love. That was the moment I just meat my producer Yoshimi. We started to work together with my artist name ESIE from the beginning of 2008.

2. It’s about your music, How to describe your music ?

Mixture of many kind of styles of music. The common background music with Yoshimi was contemporary music. From 12 to 15 years old, I was in a chorus group at school who won the contest for junior high schools in Japan. I learned a lot to sing and about contemporary music at this period. My music sounds likes a punk elctro on the first listening. But you can find that we have some different approach on the harmony between the melod, bass line and chord progression.

The main theme of my music is to express my ambivalent emotion. One of the characteristic is to keep the mood when a song will modulate. You have a kind of instable and strange emotion on the song and its fit very much with the noisy sampled sounds and heavy beat.

3.Some of your fans comparing ESIE with many musician. For an example Bjork, Siouxie, Eurythmics or even Marilyn Manson. Your comment about this ?

Many people especially comparing me with Nina Hagen when I was in France. It was a little bit strange for me that people comparing me with an artist witch I didn’t know. I don’t have particularly thought about, but sometimes it makes me idea on what I’m looks like for peoples. It give me opportunities to discover many artists who I didn’t know like Nina Hargen, Siouxie, Eurythmics etc…I was born in 1988!!

4. I’ve seen your picture and there is sweet sexy black latex cult. Music and costume, how ESIE makes the identity ?  (i’m looking at Marilyn Manson of course )

The idea of the black latex catsuit was at the moment we were thinking on the concept of my first single. First, we got the title “Under my skin” and we chain on the idea for the catsuit. It’s like my other skin, so smooth and artificial and minimal. The black latex catsuit has an visual impact and really fit to the concept of the single. I wanted to express my diverse and ambivalent heart squirming in my body. Music and costume has to be an organic fusion for me.

5. I’ve listened to your “Invasion”, why ESIE make this track is free to download ?

Free download is a promotion way but it is a kind of gift. I choose this track because it represents a lot of for my single.

6. Many bands and musician give their song, give their works for free now. Not only one track, i’ve found the band / musician that gives their albums/EP for free. What’s your opinion.

To give a free for a track or a full album depends to their mind. Give a track for free is not ease too. I think people don’t want a track if they don’t like even if it’s free. I think we must thinking on quality in the “free world”. Good quality and free could be cool but if not, it can really have damaged on the image. I think “Free” is also difficult as “sell”.

7. Japan, France, USA, which one makes you addicted most ?

I never been to USA for now and I really want to go there. My tour in France last year was my first time visit and I really loved the country!! I’m now travelling between Paris and Tokyo but it is really difficult to say which is addicted but when I in Tokyo, I want to go to France as soon as possible.

8. In my opinion, Japanesse culture specially electronic music and fashion growing up faster and faster. Fast and Furious’s Tokyo Drift is unforgettable. Till today. Does it means something to ESIE.

I think trends in Tokyo change very fast but I don’t know if it really growing up. We have some features in fashion but not so much in the electronic music. It is really difficult to create a musical scene here in Tokyo, especially in the underground scene. Japan go too fast for the mass and it is sometime difficult to keep the balance of himself.

9. Is there Another side project ?

It’s not a side project but an aim in my modeling work. I decided to retake my modeling activities also and I had a chance to sign with Nathalie Models in Paris. I recently become image model for a girl brand “GHOST OF HARLEM” in Japan and hope to develop my carrier in a world wide scale.

10. What do you think with “the potential musician with strong musical character”

I think the potential of the artist does not related to his “showy” things and depend the way of description for “strong musical character”. I think the difficult thing for artist is our life length. I also try to be creative as long as possible!!

11. Promotion for your works, how important it is and how you do the promo.

Promotion is important things and takes the major part of my team’s work. We are doing promotion activities especially on internet with Myspace, Facebook, Youtube etc… It is important not only in the way “TO SELL” but I learned a lot doing communication on the internet with many people around the world and I found always interesting artists and music.

12. Last word for the reader ?

I’m now recording my first album and I hope to be able to release in mid October or at latest in November 2010!!
